Starring: Tim Brooke-Taylor, Graeme Garden, Bill Oddie
Directed by: Jim Franklin
Synopsis: Bill (Bill Oddie) starts supplementing The Goodies income by treating a guinea pig that’s off its food, leading Graeme (Graeme Garden) to expand upon the idea and set up a complete Animal Clinic. One of their patients is a tiny kitten named Twinkle who, with the help of Graeme’s growth formula, grows to an enormous size. Inevitably the kitten gets loose and ends up terrorizing London.
Cinema Cat: If you have never seen this 70’s British sitcom, then you must seek it out, especially this episode (which won the Silver Rose at Montreaux.) Twinkle is just about the cutest little white Persian kitten one could ever imagine, and as Graeme explains is actually 23 years old but just never seems to get any bigger, although he is plenty strong. At first they take a group of pets to the park to get them exercise. Tim (Tim Brooke-Taylor) is in charge of walking Twinkle on a lead. The kitten ends up taking Tim on a drag all around the park, which is one of the most hilarious sequences ever filmed!
Later when Twinkle has been fed Graeme’s special growth formula he becomes a giant and begins inadvertently demolishing London. The shot of Kitten Kong knocking down the Post Office Tower was used in the show’s theme song and became one of the most memorable images in British television history. Different kittens were used throughout the shoot, including one with two different colored eyes.
Final Mewsings: Look out! Kitten Kong’s gonna getcha!
