Synopsis: Data outlines the events of one day of his life on the Starship Enterprise for android engineer Commander Maddox as he explains his attempts to understand human emotions. Data interacts with several of the Enterprise crew members as preparations are made for Chief O’Brien and Keiko’s wedding, as well as a risky meeting between a Vulcan ambassador and a Romulan warship.
Kitty Cameo: This is the first time Data’s pet cat, Spot, appears in the Star Trek: The Next Generation universe. Spot is a long-haired Somali in this episode and appears in Data’s cabin as Data programs up some Feline Supplement 74.
Moments later Spot jumps into Data’s lap as Data asks for information from the computer. Spot would go on to appear in several episodes of the series as well as some of the Next Generation films, although his breed and even sex would change!
Final Mewsings: There’s no better way to learn about being human than to own a cat.
