Directed by: Archie Mayo

Synopsis: Simon Haldane (Edward Everett Horton) is a meek office worker whose life is turned upside-down when a strange woman (Patsy Ruth Miller) sneaks into his house one night.

Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): In the very first scene Simon is seen putting his cat out in the morning.  He is holding the black cat by the scruff and gingerly setting him down outside the front door.

Later when things have started to become complicated, Simon is in his bedroom and the cat is on his bed.  He reaches over and pets the cat in a silly but affectionate way.

Soon after Simon is in bed with his cat whom he calls Adolphus.  He talks to Adolphus about his problems.

It’s an interesting lead turn for Edward Everett Horton and his interaction with Adolphus the cat is particularly sweet.  It’s only a shame that Adolphus didn’t have a larger role in the overall film.

This film was later remade as What a Man! and that film included a cat named Pansy.

Final Mewsings: Cats are easier to understand than women.
