Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Ray Quick (Sylvester Stallone) and Ned Trent (James Woods) are CIA explosives experts and hitmen who are like night and day; Ray has a conscious and Ned does not, which leads Ray to inform on his partner. Years later they find themselves on opposites sides once again when a beautiful woman (Sharon Stone) contacts Ray looking for a hit on the drug lords who killed her parents. But who’s playing who is the question in this action thriller filled with twists, turns and explosions (not to mention a notable shower sex scene!)
Cat Co-Star: Elvis, the feline thespian who would go on to win a starring role in the Disney remake of That Darn Cat in 1997, turns in a nice supporting role in this movie. He starts to follow Ray close to the start of the film and Ray takes him home with him on the bus.
Ray names the cat Timer (which makes sense given Ray’s occupation) and we see him in several scenes throughout the movie, although sadly the character is not given nearly enough to do and ends up pretty much forgotten at the end (except for a quick shot of him escaping alongside Ray and May from Ray’s home as it goes up in a series of explosions.) Having Elvis in the car with Stallone and Stone as they drove away would have made the ending that much more satisfying.
Final Mewsings: This film needed less nude shower scenes and more cat scenes!
