Pépé le Moko (1937)

Directed by: Julien Duvivier

Synopsis: Pépé le Moko (Jean Gabin) is hiding out in the Casbah where authorities can’t reach him, but the crafty Inspector Slimane (Lucas Gridoux) is determined to eventually flush his quarry.

Kitty Cameos: The American remake of this film, Algiers, featured some of the stock footage of the Casbah originally used in this film. Longer segments are included here which show a black cat darting behind a wall.

Later when Pépé is in an apartment with his gypsy love Inés (Line Noro), a tabby cat is seen sitting beside her.

Final Mewsings: It wouldn’t be the Casbah without cats.
