Directed by: Savage Steve Holland
Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Aspiring cartoonist and animator Hoops McCann (John Cusack) is looking for inspiration for a love story and finds zaniness with his friends at the beach.
Kitty Cameos: At the beginning of the film, Hoops is animating a love story that goes awry. He sits at his desk with a long-haired gray cat in front of him.
“Hey Morty, how am I gonna get this done?” Hoops asks the cat. “What do you know? You’re not a man, you’re a cat. Go back to your feline world.”
Hoops picks up Morty and places him on the floor where he runs into his litter box. The box is covered with tiny trophies of Morty’s kills.
Late in the film the group of friends visit the Holisitic Animal Hospital and Acupuncture Clinic. The scene opens with a dog dressed as a doctor pushing a cat dressed as a patient in a wheelchair past the group. This is also a long-haired gray cat and could easily be the same cat who played Morty earlier in the film. Not only that, but it’s very possible this is the same cat that appeared in Holland’s previous film Better Off Dead, also starring John Cusack.
The animal trainers on the film were Cathy McCallum and Cathy Churchman.
