Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Washed up and drunk Sheriff John Frazier (Broderick Crawford) is determined to ride with a posse to make sure justice is served despite two men who want to serve their own justice.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): Early in the film, a man named Ollie Stokley (Henry Hull) enters the Sheriff’s office. A tabby tomcat is standing on the desk.
The cat rubs against Stokley when he approaches the desk.
When the Sheriff enters, the cat jumps down from the desk but soon reappears on the other side, hopping back up.
The cat is excited because the Sheriff has some milk or cream in a pitcher which he pours into a bowl for the cat.
It’s clear that the Sheriff is fond of the cat, petting him as he eats. When the men leave to go to the saloon, the Sheriff looks back at the cat again. This is obviously to make us like the Sheriff who may have fallen on hard times but is still a good guy.
Final Mewsings: Cats make good drinking buddies.
Many thanks to Ted Davis for letting us know about the cat in this film!
