English Title: Cosmic Journey
Directed by: Vasily Zhuravlyov
Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: A futuristic Soviet space program finds Professor Pavel Ivanovich Sedikh (Sergey Komarov) attempting to be the first man on the moon.
Featured Feline: During the course of the film it is explained that animals are used as test subjects and sent into space first. We see Professor Marina (Ksenia Moskalenko) carrying a long-haired white cat which the scientists plan to send to the moon. Unfortunately in currently available copies the cat is all but cut out of the shot.
Later when Sedikh reaches the moon with Marina and a boy named Andryusha (Vassili Gaponenko) they find the white cat still alive. When they return to Earth, Andryusha is carrying the cat down the ladder of the rocketship in his knapsack.
The scientists are amazed that the cat survived the previous trip, as did the people in the second. The cat is on hand as they are all hailed as heroes.
Final Mewsings: Cats are out of this world.
Many thanks to Ted Davis for letting us know about the cat in this film.
