Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Based on the book series by Megan McDonald. Judy (Jordana Beatty) plans to save a bummer summer by planning an elaborate game of dares for her and her friends to play.
Featured Feline: Judy has a tuxedo cat named Mouse who often hangs out with her in her room.
Judy even has Mouse spin a Magic 8 Ball for her to predict whether or not the summer will be a bust.
When the 8 Ball indicates things will go well, she gives Mouse a high five.
Judy gives Mouse a kiss before heading for school.
For most of the film Mouse is just sitting around Judy’s room while she is being moody.
Mouse seems to be in tune with Judy. She even joins Judy in an eye roll when Judy’s little brother is bothering her.
When the kitchen appears to be on fire, Judy runs downstairs with a water pistol. Mouse, who is sitting on the stairs, runs back to her room.
At the end of the film Mouse is seen sitting on the giant Bigfoot statue erected in the front yard.
Cat actors Tails and Tux played Mouse (we are assuming there were two cat actors and not just one). The cat trainer on the film was Sheri Aparicio working for Paws for Effect.
Mouse is a regular character in the Judy Moody books, and is often illustrated lovingly by Peter H. Reynolds.
Final Mewsings: Who can have a bummer summer when they have a great cat?
