Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!

Synopsis: A comedy horror film comprised from the web series of the same name. Hollywood writer Nick (Nicholas Tana) relates the bizarre adventures with his seemingly possessed cat Angel.

Featured Feline: Angel is a beautiful gray and white cat who lives with Nick in his apartment.

All would be well, except Angel is fiercely jealous of any woman Nick shows interest in (or practically anyone who enters the apartment!)

As a result, Nick and Angel have some very bizarre encounters.

Several things are done in an attempt to help Angel, including calling in a couple of priests to perform an exorcism and bringing in a medium who tries to lure the evil spirit from the cat.

The episodic stories (which make more sense when you realize that much of this film is compiled from the short films originally made for the web series) are nods to classic horror films with cameos by some big name stars (Michael Berryman, Lee Meriwether and Dale Midkiff, for instance).

But the glue holding the whole thing together is Angel herself, a natural cat actor who does a very admirable job with all the zaniness going on around her.

Angel played the part of herself, as explained in her biography from the official Hell’s Kitty website: “The real star of Hell’s Kitty, Angel has worked with more icons of horror than any cat in history; and is likely the only feline in history to have ever gotten away with scratching Lee Meriwether. A method actor, she does all her own stunts and insists on being paid in tuna and treats. She inspired the Hell’s Kitty franchise, serving as Tana’s muse; sitting on his lap when he wrote the scripts.”

Sadly Angel passed away but her memory lives on in her exceptional performances in the original shorts and this film. Oddly enough, Angel is not the cat featured on the poster for the film. It’s also interesting to note the series spawned a musical stage adaptation performed in 2019.
