Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Claireece Precious Jones (Gabourey Sidibe) struggles with unthinkable adversity while growing up in Harlem in the 1980’s.
Cat Burglars (Scene Stealers): Precious lives with her abusive mother Mary (Mo’Nique) who owns at least three cats.
The cats are present throughout the scenes in the apartment, usually in the background.
There is a tabby and white cat, a light ginger tabby and an orange and white cat. One of them is apparently named Ethel, as Mary asks, “Ethel, where you at?” in one scene.
The cats are usually standing nearby when Precious is cooking food for her mother.
Precious leaves the apartment with her baby after a particularly violent fight with her mother. Mary pushes the orange and white cat from a chair which then crosses a doorway. The cats do not appear again after this.
Final Mewsings: Both cats and children deserve love and respect.
