Synopsis: Henry Hobson (Charles Laughton) runs a successful footwear shop in England and rules with an iron fist over his family, including his three daughters. His oldest daughter, Maggie (Brenda de Banzie), sets her sights on the shop’s hard-working, talented bootmaker Willie Mossop (John Mills) and is determined not only to marry him but to make him a successful businessman in his own right, much to her father’s chagrin.
Purr Blur: During one scene when Maggie insists on going to the home of Willie’s girlfriend to make her intentions known to the woman, they are hurrying across a street in the lower class neighborhood. Sitting on the corner is a little black and white cat.
Final Mewsings: Cats add excellent background atmosphere.
