Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Pale and fragile Pierre (Gerard Philipe), a wan and dispirited young man, is driven to return to the gloomy seaside hotel where he grew up, but is unable to escape the nightmarish events of his recent past, any more than he can escape the almost incessant rainstorms which sweep the nearby beaches.
Kitty Cameo: Overworked hotel drudge Marthe (Madeline Robinson) leads Pierre to his room, and casually removes a drowsing tabby from its nest on the middle of the bed, then drops it to the floor.
The cat is seen once more later in the movie hurrying through the doorway after an extremely disturbed Pierre hurls a balled up newspaper in his room. It’s not clear from the camera angle whether the cat was the target.
Final Mewsings: Hotel guests today would pay dividends if their rooms included kitty cats.
