Synopsis: Archivist Mathieu Grégoire (Jean-Luc Bideau) is a family man with a lovely wife Jeanne (Danièle Delorme) and daughter Marie (Stéphane Excoffier). Mathieu is frustrated with the possibility that his wife is having an affair with fellow archivist Victor (Roger Coggio) but doesn’t apply the same rules of discretion to himself when he happens upon a lovely woman he dubs Belle (Adriana Bogdan) living alone in an abandoned cabin in the woods.
Kitty Cameo: Marie has a pet brown tabby cat named Juliette.

One morning in the kitchen Marie tells her father that she is leaving the cat with him when she goes away to get married. “You can keep the cat, because you don’t have another one,” Mathieu tells her.

Later that night Mathieu is waiting up for Marie to get home with her fiancé so he can lock up. He carries Juliette as he paces the foyer, complaining about how late his daughter is in getting back.

Mathieu sets Juliette down on a table and then shouts the same words he said earlier about Marie keeping the cat which startles the poor kitty into jumping down.

He apparently didn’t scare the cat too much because Juliette starts heading for the open door at the end of the foyer, causing Mathieu to call and keep the cat from going out again. This is the last time Juliette is seen in the movie.

Final Mewsings: Cats, like cheating husbands, don’t like restrictions.
