Fruits of Passion (1981)

by Mark Murton

Original Title: Les fruits de la Passion

Directed by: Shūji Terayama

Synopsis: Dire French-Japanese co-production loosely based on the sequel novel to the controversial The Story of ‘O’. Sir Stephen (Klaus Kinski) and O (Isabelle Illiers) are in south China where Sir Stephen places her in brothel for “training”. Here she is subjected to a number of humiliating experiences to prove her unconditional obedience.

Purr Blur: In a night-time shot of the brothel exterior a black cat is disturbed by the approach of a man and shoots off out of sight.

As the man passes the cat runs back into shot and disappears through a slatted opening to the building.

Final Mewsings: When you’re in a film with this much perversion it’s best to keep moving.
