Miracle in Soho (1957)

by Mark Murton

Directed by: Julian Aymes

Synopsis: Philandering labourer Michael Morgan (John Gregson) is working with a gang, mending a road in Soho. While there he meets Italian Julia Gozzi (Belinda Lee), a shop assistant in a pet shop whose family are about to emigrate to Canada. Julia eventually falls for Michael, and stays behind in England, only to find that for Michael when the job in Soho is over so is the affair. Julia then visits a local church and prays for a miracle to bring him back.

Purr Blurs: Michael goes to Mrs. Coleman’s pet shop to buy some dog biscuits as a way of chatting up a girl he’s interested in who he has seen walking her dog. Standing outside, he sees Julia removing some tuxedo kittens from the window.
