Il mio amico, Jekyll (1960)

by Linda Kay

English Title: My Friend, Jekyll

Directed by: Marino Girolami

Synopsis: This parody of Robert Louis Stevenson’s story Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde is really just an excuse for some titillating sex themed comedy in this broad Italian farce which finds the mad Professor Fabius (Ugo Tognazzi) trying out brain transference experiments on college teacher Giacinto Floria (Raimondo Vianello) which sends him chasing after his female students.

Kitty Cameo: Near the beginning of the film we see the inside of Professor Fabius’ lab in which a tabby cat is imprisoned inside a small cage.

Fabius skips transferring a woman’s mind into the cat and decides to use his assistant instead.

Final Mewsings: Cat minds are far too complex to transfer into our simple human brains.

Many thanks to Nick Wale for letting us know about the cat in this film.
