English Title: Black Orpheus
Dispat Films
Starring: Breno Mello, Marpessa Dawn, Marcel Camus
Directed by: Marcel Camus
Synopsis: A creative and intriguing retelling of the classic Greek Orpheus myth set in Rio de Janeiro during the Carnaval. Tram conductor Orfeo (Breno Mello) falls in love with the beautiful country girl Eurydice (Marpessa Dawn) who fears for her life from a mysterious death-clad figure that is stalking her.
Purr Blurs: As in the Orpheus mythos, Orfeo is a musician who plays a guitar and charms the people and animals around him. As such he has a regular menagerie in his home, including a black kitten which can be seen as Orfeo enters and then plays a song for two boys.
In the same scene what looks to be an older black cat is laying in the background (which would explain the kitten.)
The kitten continues to be seen in passing throughout the film in Orfeo’s home
Final Mewsings: Cats are music lovers.
