Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: An adaptation of Chekhov’s play Uncle Vanya set in 1920’s Australia. The Voysey family anticipate the return of London theater critic Alexander (Michael Blakemore) to their rural farm and are surprised when he turns up with a beautiful young wife named Deborah (Greta Scacchi).
Cat Burglars (Scene Stealers): In one scene later in the film Dr. Max Askey (Sam Neill) is in the barn when Deborah comes looking for him. She wants to ask him some personal questions so he encourages her to climb over some farm equipment so they can talk in a back stable. When she enters the stable, he points downward and Deborah sees a mother cat with her kittens.
After their discussion things get passionate between the two and there is another shot of the mama cat.
Final Mewsings: Mama cats don’t have time for romantic human entanglements.
