Mack Sennett Comedies
Starring: Mabel Normand, Anna Dodge, George Nichols
Directed by: F. Richard Jones
Synopsis: Sue Graham (Mabel Normand) is a small-town girl who dreams of becoming a famous actress in Hollywood, but Tinseltown doesn’t turn out to be the dream palace she imagines it to be.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): When Sue’s Ma named Mary (Anna Dodge) is introduced she is seen knitting. A ball of yarn is on the floor and a black kitten is all wrapped up in yarn, playing with it.
Kitty Cameos: Later on, Sue is secretly preparing an envelope with her photograph inside to send to a Hollywood Studio contest. She puts the postage stamp in her mouth to wet it when her door opens slightly. She swallows the stamp to keep from being discovered. But when she looks over she sees a dark tortoiseshell cat enter the room.
A moment later this same cat is downstairs lying across a table in front of Sue’s father, Zachariah (George Nichols).
Sue sneaks downstairs and the cat is seen on the table but laying perfectly still.
In the closer shot, the cat is washing itself. Sue’s father picks up the cat and places it outside the window, giving Sue a chance to sneak out of the house.
Final Mewsings: Cats don’t typically dream of acting careers in Hollywood.
