Original Air Date: November 3, 1963
Starring: Ray Walston, Bill Bixby
Also Starring: Orangey (as Rhubarb)
Directed by: Sidney Miller
Synopsis: Uncle Martin (Ray Walston) zaps himself to the top of a water tower to find some relief from the heat and humidity but when he comes down he finds himself in a psychiatric hospital.
Cinema Cat: Orangey would have a co-starring part in a later episode of this series, but for now he has just a small cameo role, albeit a notable one. Uncle Martin is walking on a sidewalk in the opening scenes after the credits and stops when he comes across a cat in his path.
Martin tells the cat it will have to move because he doesn’t have the energy to go around. He then spots the water tower and pulls out his levitating box.
This is where Orangey really has to carry the scene, as we don’t see Martin actually rise up to the water tower, we just see the cat as he goes from a lying to sitting position, apparently watching the man floating. It’s a very effective piece of acting!
After Martin lands on the water tower the cat reacts and then runs away.
Final Mewsings: Cats can carry scenes.
