Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Backwoods country mouse Elmo (voiced by Mel Blanc) travels to the city to visit his girlfriend Daisy (voiced by Bea Benaderet) only to find her in the arms of a city slicker named Blackie (voiced by Stan Freberg).
Cartoon Cat: Elmo tries everything to impress his girl but Blackie somehow always outdoes him. When Blackie presents Daisy with a fur coat, Elmo brags that he can get her an ermine coat. Setting out into the house he searches for an ermine (not even knowing what it is) and manages to get drunk while looking into a bottle of champagne. He then spots a brown and white cat named Herman sleeping by his bowl. From Elmo’s point of view he can only see the letters “erman” and drunkenly assumes this is his prey, even though it looks a lot like a cat.

Elmo bravely approaches the cat, then goes back into Daisy’s mousehole to check her measurements. He returns to the cat’s side, using the tape measure to plan his coat extraction.

Herman wakes up and is surprised to find Elmo standing boldly in front of him.

The drunken Elmo sees multiple spinning and angry looking cats growling at him.

Herman tries to catch Elmo and is shocked when the mouse ends up in his mouth.

Elmo runs and the cat takes chase.

Jumping onto a dining table, Elmo avoids Herman as the cat swipes down an angry paw, knocking the table leaf upwards and knocking himself out.

Elmo proudly presents Daisy with a beautiful white fur coat and walks out the door with her. Blackie looks out into the human living room, wondering where his rival had obtained the coat. Herman punches Blackie and snaps (in a voice like Jimmy Durante’s), “Don’t get nosey, Junior!” Herman wanders away and we see a coat shaped patch of fur missing from his backside.

Final Mewsings: Cats definitely do not support the wearing of fur by other species.
