Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Having graduated from detective school, Bud Alexander (Bud Abbott) and Lou Francis (Lou Costello) take on the case of boxer Tommy Nelson (Arthur Franz) who is accused of killing his manager. Tommy uses an invisibility formula to remain hidden until the case can be solved, which causes no end of stress for Bud and Lou.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): In order to catch the crooks behind the murder, Lou agrees to a boxing match against a brute named Rocky Hanlon (John Daheim) with the condition that Tommy in his invisible state goes with Lou into the ring to do the real fighting. But on the night of the match, Tommy has not shown up. Lou paces in his dressing room, calling for Tommy. He hears a scratching sound at the window and runs over, throwing up the sash and calling for Tommy in anticipation. Instead he is faced with a very angry black cat who hisses and snarls at him.
Lou slams the window shut and stammers, “Black cat!” before making a motion to ward off bad luck.
Final Mewsings: The cat could have brought good luck if Lou hadn’t scared him!
Many thanks to Laurie Morrison for letting us know about the cat in this film.
