Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: In this Screen Songs release by the Fleischer Studios, which produced the often surreal Popeye and Betty Boop cartoons, the pert and cute Lillian Roth sings the Milton Ager -Jack Yellen standard bracketed by animated segments.
Cartoon Cats: This Fleischer short, set at a barn raising, is chock full of black cats – top hat wearing cats dancing in unison and slow dancing kitty cat couples; little kittens nursing under their rhythmically stepping mama cat; doughnut and hot-dog gobbling cats; cats swilling milk fresh from the cow (inferred) and kitties lapping cream from the bowl; a punch imbibing tom cat; ice-cream bingeing kitties; musically inclined kitties playing horns and the piano and keyboards – there are even cats swimming in molasses so they can be rolled into Lolly Pops!
Final Mewsings: That’s one barn that won’t have to worry about mice.
