Cat Out of the Bag Alert!  This review contains a slight spoiler for this film!

Synopsis: ‘Gloves’ Donahue (Humphrey Bogart) is a popular Broadway racketeer who finds himself caught up in international intrigue when a murder leads him to a pretty woman (Kaaren Verne) and nest of Nazi agents.

Kitty Cameo: Gloves is drawn into the mystery when a neighborhood baker goes missing and Gloves’ mother (Jane Darwell) calls her son out of concern.  Gloves and his right-hand man Sunshine (William Demarest) search the bakery, starting in the basement.  Just when they’re convinced there is nothing there they hear a crash and see a tabby cat jump down from a shelf.

Gloves goes over to the cat and picks it up, then realizes the hand of the now deceased baker is sticking out of a storage bin.

Final Mewsings: The health department would probably frown on both cats and corpses in bakery basements.
