Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Fievel Mousekewitz (voiced by Phillip Glasser) and his family leave New York for the wide open spaces of the American west. Unbeknownst to them, the shyster behind the promise of a better life is a devious cat named Cat R. Waul (voiced by John Cleese) who intends to force slave labor from the new residents before making mouse burgers out of them.
Cartoon Cats: Fievel’s cat friend Tiger (voiced by Dom DeLuise) returns and in his opening scene he loses the love of his life, Miss Kitty (voiced by Amy Irving), who has decided to head west. He is left with only the scent of her perfume.
When Fievel’s family also decides to go west Tiger is quick to follow and plays a pivotal part in the proceedings, first being mistaken for a god by Indian mice and then being trained to act like a dog by Wylie Burp (voiced by James Stewart) to chase down the bad cats.
Bad Kitties:There are numerous bad cats in this film which are being led by the slick British shyster Cat R. Waul, who devises the plan to have the mice come west so he can use them as slave labor to build his town before eating them.
Cat R. Waul is a delightful bad guy and John Cleese lends him the perfect air of sophistication.
Final Mewsings: Cats shouldn’t try to be dogs, they should just strive to be better cats.
