Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: One of Fleischer Studio’s Screen Song singalongs. A Casanova Cat has a different girl for every day of the week, although he particularly favors Lulu Belle and pays her a visit.
Cartoon Cats: This animated short is often referred to as a Betty Boop cartoon although Betty only appears briefly within. The true star of this short is actually the Casanova Cat, a philandering tom who has an entire desk full of telephones through which he can screen his nightly dalliances.
The other feline star is Lulu Belle, a cat character similar to Betty Boop in some ways and often mistaken for her (Betty Boop is actually supposed to be a dog).
Lulu Belle is happy to shower affections on Casanova Cat until he abruptly takes his leave, then her ire is aroused.
The short winds up with a sing-a-long of Every Little Girl That’s a Nice Little Girl and Casanova Cat hopping along the words with Lulu Belle. It’s rather strange that the song seems to refer to a girl who is flirting and the boy cat who doesn’t approve so it’s not clear why it is introduced by a philandering boy cat!
Final Mewsings: You can’t slow a tomcat down!
