Assignment Terror (1970)

by Linda Kay

Original title: Los monstruos del terror

Also Known As: Dracula vs. Frankenstein

Directed by: Paul Naschy

Synopsis: The alien scientist Dr. Odo (Michael Rennie) and his team, disguised as human beings, launch their plan to destroy mankind by means of generating and unleashing classic horrors such as vampires, werewolves, mummies and Frankenstein’s monsters on the unsuspecting public.

Kitty Cameo: Their first stop on the road to destruction is a carnival where a sideshow barker (Luciano Tacconi) displays the supposed remains of Count de Meirhoff, a notorious vampire. Maleva (Karin Dor), the female cohort of Dr. Odo, lures away the barker while the barker’s assistant Ilona (Gela Geisler) picks up and cuddles a pretty black cat.

Ilona notices Dr. Odo looking at her and becomes uneasy.

The black cat gets an extreme close up in the next scene when Maleva is making out with the barker. It’s hard to tell if her shocked look is in reaction to the sex or the cat!

The cat scurries off as Dr. Odo enters and wisely does not return.

Final Mewsings: Cat actors can usually tell when a movie isn’t going to get any better.
