Cat Out of the Bag Alert!  This review contains some spoilers for this film!

Synopsis: A girl named Opal (AnnaSophia Robb) moves to a new town with her preacher father (Jeff Daniels) and feels lonely until she makes the acquaintance of an unusual dog she names Winn-Dixie.

Kitty Cameo: Opal and her father live in a mobile home rented from a man named Mr. Alfred (B.J. Hopper).  Mr. Alfred catches Opal washing Winn-Dixie and making a muddy mess of the yard.  He is carrying a tabby cat as he approaches her.

Mr. Alfred does not approve of the dog and also notes that she has borrowed his garden hose without asking.

Opal throws down the hose and it sprays Mr. Alfred and his cat.  The cat scrambles out of the man’s arms.

Winn-Dixie chases the cat across the yard, knocking down some laundry in the process.  Mr. Alfred’s cat is not seen again in the film.

Purr Blurs:  Opal works part time in a pet store and in one scene some kittens can be seen in the window display as Opal and Winn-Dixie enter the shop.

Final Mewsings: Not surprising that cats would take a back seat in a movie about a dog.
