Directed by: Mike Mills
Synopsis: Oliver (Ewan McGregor) is an artist coming to grips with his father Hal’s (Christopher Plummer) terminal cancer and newly expressed homosexuality.
Purr Blurs: Vintage photographs are used to show the various eras important to the story. For one of the 1955 examples of pets, a black and white photograph of a baby girl holding a tabby cat is shown.
For the late 60’s a girl, representing Oliver’s girlfriend Anna (Mélanie Laurent) as a child, is seen with a tabby cat sleeping on her bed.
In this same segment, a man with a tabby cat is supposed to be one of Anna’s former boyfriends.
For the 1978 representation of pets, two little girls are seen holding cats in front of a flocked Christmas tree. Each of the photos is only seen on screen for a few seconds.
Final Mewsings: Cats are a part of our history.
