Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: A group of college sorority sisters are stalked by a person or persons unknown.
Featured Feline: This film bears basically no resemblance to the original Black Christmas but there is a long-haired white cat in this one (although the cat is named Claudette instead of Claude, presumably to fit the feminist theme). Claudette is seen right after the title card climbing over Riley (Imogen Poots) who is sleeping in bed.
Claudette is owned by Fran (Nathalie Morris) who asks Riley to watch after her cat while she is on Christmas vacation. “And don’t overfeed her,” Fran says, “It took an entire year to slim her down after last winter break.” Riley carries Claudette downstairs and points out the black goo on the cat’s paws to the others.
After all the other sister’s leave the sorority house, Fran is about to go herself when she hears Claudette meowing. Fran goes from room to room looking for the cat. Eventually Claudette appears in the hall. Fran walks towards her and is then grabbed by the killer.
Claudette is not seen again until partway through the end credits when the cat is licking black goo from the floor, a bad omen.
Claudette was played by cat actor Rana owned by Racquel Lewis. It was reported online that the cat actor was originally male before being gender swapped with the originally cast male cat being returned to a shelter (we cannot substantiate this report).
Final Mewsings: White cats and black goo do not go together.
