Original Air Date: November 13, 1992
Starring: Bob Newhart, Carlene Watkins
Directed by: Michael Zinberg
Synopsis: Bob (Newhart) is understandably nervous about the publishing of the premiere issue of Mad Dog and is even moreso when a printing error leaves off the last page of the story.
Featured Feline: In yet another classic moment, Bob is seen sitting on the couch watching television with Otto when Kaye (Carlene Watkins) walks in. She notes Bob must be preoccupied because he is watching Dumbo’s Circus.
Kaye turns off the television and Otto meows in protest, jumping off the couch and running into the other room. “I didn’t turn it off!” Bob calls after him.
Bob eventually turns back on the television and smiles. “Oh look! Donald Duck Presents is next!” Otto comes running back in and jumps on the couch next to Bob.
Kaye turns the television off again and once again Otto cries and runs into the other room. “Honey, I know you’re irritated with me but you don’t have to take it out on the cat!” Bob notes.
When Bob finally decides to go into the office he steels himself by pointing out he has his lucky marble, only he can’t find it. Otto then runs out of the other room chasing something across the floor. They run to Otto just as the marble plunks down through the heating grate.
Bob gets down on the floor to look and says, “There’s a lot of marbles down there.” After a pause he adds, “Is that my driver’s license?” Otto then runs up the stairs.
Later in the episode the family is in the kitchen when they hear Otto outside the door. When Bob opens the door, Albie (Andrew Bilgore) is holding him. “I brought you your cat, sir,” Albie says, setting Otto down. “Did he run away?” Bob asks. “No, I was just holding him to keep my fingers warm,” Albie explains.
Final Mewsings: Cats don’t like it when people turn off the TV while they’re watching.
Many thanks to Stevie Holcomb for letting us know about Otto in this series!
