Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Reclusive writer Don Johnston (Bill Murray) receives an anonymous letter from a former lover informing him of a son which starts him on a journey to visit the women in his life.
Purr Blur: One of the women Don visits is Dr. Carmen Markowski (Jessica Lange) who has become an animal communicator. In her waiting room he looks at several books she has written, one of which includes a photo of a Siamese cat.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): As they are talking in her office, Carmen pauses to get up and open a sliding glass door and let in a brown tabby cat named Ramon. “All right, you can come in again,” she tells the cat as he walks to a pillow on the floor.
Carmen sits down on the floor next to the cat and pets him.
Don is skeptical, asking Carmen is she can read the minds of animals. She explains that after her beloved dog Winston died she suddenly realized she could understand what animals were saying to her but she isn’t reading their minds.
Ramon is eyeing Don strangely and he asks if the cat is saying something. Carmen explains that Ramon is saying that Don came to her with a hidden agenda.
After this Carmen tells Ramon to go back outside, realizing he is making Don nervous.
We only see Ramon once more in a flashback during a dream sequence. The animal trainer on the film was Dawn Barkan.
Final Mewsings: You probably don’t want to know what your cat is thinking most of the time.
