Cannonball Run II (1984)

Directed by: Hal Needham

Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!

Synopsis: The crazy competitors set out across country once again for another entry in the Cannonball Run race.

Faux Cat: In an early scene that spoofs The Godfather, Don Canneloni (Dom DeLuise) is talking to several “family” members. As he talks, he is petting a clearly fake white cat.

Eventually the Don looks down at the stiff cat and says, “This cat is dead. Get me a new cat.” He then sighs painfully, “Oh God! Cat coulda been a contender.” (A joke eluding to Marlon Brando being The Godfather but quoting a line from his role from On the Waterfront.”

Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): Tony (Alex Rocco) gets up and brings in a tabby cat, which he hands to the Don.

The Don states, “It’s a tabby. Very nice.” He then lifts the cat’s tail and the cat lets out a screech (dubbed in) and adds, “It’s a boy.”

Final Mewsings: Apparently mob bosses wear out their cats.
