Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Short-tempered seaman Captain Zenas Henry Brewster (James Barton) tries to settle down for the sake of the woman he loves, Abbie Howland (Helen Westley).
Featured Feline: When we first see Zenas Henry calling on Abbie she is sitting in a rocking chair with a white cat named Puffy in her lap.
When Zenas Henry knocks on her window, she stands up and Puffy jumps down to the floor.
Later Abbie agrees to move in part-time with Zenas Henry to keep house. Puffy accompanies her and stays until she takes him home with her. Puffy mostly likes to sleep on the couch.
Zenas Henry tries Abbie’s patience by allowing his sailor friends to visit and mess up the house. One time Abbie comes home to find the house a disaster. She goes to grab Puffy from the couch but the cat runs away from her.
While Puffy is mentioned several times in the film, usually he is only seen in the background. It’s very likely this is prolifent cat actor Whitey who co-starred in several other RKO films.
Final Mewsings: Want a woman to love you? Love her cat!
