This review contains a slight Kitty Carnage Warning!
Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Matt Ballot (Steve Cochran) returns home to his farm after previously abandoning his wife Bess (Ann Sheridan) and children, hoping to make amends.
Cat Burglars (Scene Stealers): When Matt arrives on the farm he learns he has a son named Abraham (Richard Eyer). He accompanies the boy to the barn to milk the cow. A beautiful tabby cat is lying in the hay of the stall.
Kitty Carnage Warning! The cow accidentally steps on the cat’s tail, sending the cat scrambling. Actually it’s some kind of fake cow leg that is brought down on the cat’s tail. The leg looks padded and might have been softer than it appears.
Matt and Abraham are concerned for the cat, who has climbed up on some hay bales.
Matt gets the cat and sits with her and his son in a buggy as they check the cat’s tail.
The tail appears to be all right but Matt finds a big tick on the cat and removes it as his daughter Annie (Sherry Jackson) enters.
Later in the film a cyclone hits the farm. The family hunkers down in a storm cellar where the children have brought all of the animals. But Abraham realizes they forgot the kittens. Animal lover Annie sneaks out to the barn through the storm to rescue the basket of kittens and needs rescuing herself by Matt. Inside the cellar we see the basket of adorable grey kittens.
Final Mewsings: It is nice to see people concerned about cats in a film for a change!
