RKO Radio Pictures
Starring:
Simone Simon, Kent Smith, Jane Randolph, Ann Carter
Directed by: Gunther von Fritsch and Robert Wise

Synopsis: This film continues the story of Oliver Reed (Kent Smith) and his second wife Alice (Jane Randolph) who have moved to the suburbs after the events of the original film, Cat People, and have a daughter named Amy (Ann Carter).  Amy is a wistful child prone to fantasy and daydreaming which concerns her father, especially when she insists she’s being visited by Oliver’s first wife, Irena (Simone Simon).

Kitty Cameo: At the beginning of the movie we see a group of school children being led to a park by their teacher.  As they run into the clearing to play, two boys spot a small black cat sitting in a tree, which they point out.  They then proceed to pretend to shoot it with their hands held up like rifles and making machine gun noises until the cat runs away.

This is the only appearance of an actual cat in the film.  Writer and film historian Gregory Mank explained in the film’s DVD commentary that the scene was shot several weeks after the film was finished simply because the studio realized that despite the title there were no actual cats within the film.  This is really the only negative for a film which is completely unlike the original but fascinating in its own way.

Final Mewsings: The real curse of this movie is that there aren’t more cats in it.
