English Title: The Strange Little Cat
Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin (DFFB)
Starring: Jenny Schily, Matthias Dittmer, Mia Kasalo
Also Starring: Kasimir
Directed by: Ramon Zürcher
Synopsis: A family prepares for a dinner with relatives as a day in their lives plays out on screen in its own quirky way.
Featured Feline: The title female orange tabby cat which is the family’s pet is seen several times throughout the movie, sometimes interacting with various family members. For instance in one scene the mother hovers her foot over the cat’s head as it is eating. She doesn’t harm the cat or startle her, but this is the kind of silly real-life activity featured in the movie.
The cat likes to climb up on the kitchen table and look out through an open window.
A couple of times the cat is seen with the grandmother who is sleeping.
While nothing earth-shattering happens in the movie it is an interesting slice-of-life film and the cat and dog are both well represented.
The unnamed pet was played by cat actor Kasimir. The dog (named Ferdinand) and the cat came from the same household and were not trained for movie acting but worked well in their debut roles since they were already roommates in real life.
Final Mewsings: It’s clear the cat isn’t the one who’s strange in this family.
