English Title: The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant
Directed by: Rainer Werner Fassbinder
Synopsis: Petra von Kant (Margit Carstensen) is a self-involved fashion designer who falls for a young model named Karin (Hanna Schygulla) and deals with the emotional ramifications of that affair.
Kitty Cameos: At the beginning of the film a black cat and a Siamese cat are eating something on a stairway under the opening credits.

The Siamese cat moves to the bottom of the stairs and sits as the credits continue to roll.

After the credits have ended the cats remain as Petra’s assistant Marlene (Irm Hermann) enters behind the stairs.

The camera then pans into Petra’s room. Despite this promising beginning, the cats never appear again.

Final Mewsings: You can’t open with cats and then leave us hanging!
