Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this short!
Synopsis: Pete the Pup Joe becomes despondent and wants to end it all when his boy (Joe Cobb) seems to favor a beautiful little girl named Clarabelle over him.
Kitty Cameos: In the beginning of the short when Pete is preparing to hang himself, there is a shot of two cats sitting together. The black cat turns to the gray and white cat and says (via title card) “I’m glad he’s kickin’ off — He was only a pain in the neck to me — “
The gray and white cat makes a second appearance later in the short as Gertrude who is being pushed in Clarabelle’s baby buggy. Gertrude hisses at Pete when he barks nearby.
Clarabelle scolds Joe, telling him to send the mean ol’ dog away because he’s scaring Gertrude.
If “Gertrude” looks familiar that is because the same cat also played Tunney in the Our Gang silent short Tired Business Men.
Final Mewsings: Cats aren’t very sympathetic when it comes to dog suicide.
