Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains spoilers for this episode!
Synopsis: Tyler James (Blake Michael) finds himself torn between two girls. Meanwhile, Ellen (Beth Littleford) brings home a cat she is watching for a friend and the family scrambles to keep Stan the Dog (voiced by Stephen Full) from finding out.
Featured Feline: The pretty white cat Ellen brings home is named Whiskers. Bennett (Regan Burns) is shocked that Ellen, who is not noted for getting along with animals, would bring the cat home.
Kitty Cameo: Avery (G. Hannelius) is also shocked that they would bring a cat in the house after what happened the last time (a quick flashback is shown of an orange cat clinging to a curtain rod and the house demolished by Stan).
The family tries to throw Stan off the scent of the cat but end up keeping Whiskers in Bennett’s den, which causes him some inconvenience when Ellen and Chloe (Francesca Capaldi) also hang out there to be with the cat.
While blogging, Stan posts pictures of Ellen with a cat beard.
And a cat with an Ellen beard.
Stan finds Whiskers and is livid about the cat being brought into the house. He tries to get Whiskers to disappear by opening the front door. Whiskers does exit the house and Stan feels triumphant.
When Stan wakes up the next morning, however, Whiskers is curled up on the couch with him.
Stan starts to like Whiskers which causes him to have an identity crisis. In one scene Whiskers even grooms Stan’s foot.
Cat Cattle Call: When Stan thinks he likes cats he lures a bunch of the neighborhood cats in but soon tires of them.
In the end Whiskers is leaving to go home and Stan is saying goodbye when Whiskers takes a swipe at him. Stan decides he hates cats after all.
The cat actor playing the part of Whiskers is Frosty, a natural talent who would make another notable appearance on this series the following season. The orange tabby was likely played by cat actor Charlie. The animal actors for the show were provided by Good Dog Animals.
Final Mewsings: Dogs and cats can be friends but both have to be willing.
