Synopsis: Based on a poem by Alexander Pushkin. A young woman Parasha (Sofya Goslavskaya) lives with her widowed mother (Praskovya Maksimova) and comes up with a clever way to see more of her officer boyfriend (Ivan Mozzhukhin).
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): As the silent short begins the widow and her daughter are sitting together in their living room. A white cat with markings is sleeping on the couch beside the widow.
When the daughter realizes her mother is sleeping, she sneaks out of the room.
Later the mother awakens and picks up and pets the cat.
The cat is seen on the couch several times after this.
Final Mewsings: Officers may come and go but cats are forever.
