Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains a potential spoiler for this film!
Synopsis: Astronomers Dr. Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence) discover a comet is about to hit the Earth and try to warn the world, only to be met with an increasingly insane populace.
Kitty Cameos: One man who tries to help Randall and Kate is Dr. Teddy Oglethorpe (Rob Morgan). He sits at home with his longhair tabby and white cat and watches their first television appearance on a talk show.
As the scientists try to explain the impending peril, Oglethorpe reacts to the situation. The cat is not seen again for the rest of the movie, even when Dr. Oglethorpe joins the others on the supposed last day of the world.
Kate gets frustrated on the show and goes into a rant, which quickly becomes internet memes, including one comparing her with Devastated Wet Cat.
Behind the Scenes
The animals in the film were provided by Rhodes Collar with Gleanna Doyle acting as Animal Coordinator. But the scene-stealing cat, played by cat actor Squiggy, was trained and coached by owner Tiffanie Jae who has also worked with Gleanna. “He’s been ‘acting’ since he was a kitten,” Tiffanie explained to us via the Cinema Cats Facebook page, adding that Squiggy also appeared in the very beginning of the latest film version of Little Women.
Tiffanie and Squiggy really enjoy working in film but sadly other commitments (including animal rescue!) keep them from working full time in the industry. She admits that Squiggy is not very “peopley” especially if he doesn’t if he doesn’t like the vibe of a person. Thankfully that wasn’t a problem with co-star Rob Morgan. “[Rob was an] amazing human being!” Tiffanie enthused, adding, “Squiggy loved him!”
Final Mewsings: Who doesn’t spend the last day of the world with their cat??
