Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Sister Aloysius Beauvier (Meryl Streep) suspects Father Brendan Flynn (Philip Seymour Hoffman) of sexually abusing a student in their Catholic school.
Kitty Cameo: Sister Beauvier is discussing the matter with Sister James (Amy Adams) when a woman named Mrs. Carson (Susan Blommaert) enters carrying a tuxedo cat.
“Why the cat?” Sister Beauvier asks as Mrs. Carson passes through. “‘Cause there’s a mouse,” Mrs. Carson answers.
Later Mrs. Carson walks into Sister Beauvier’s office right when she and Sister James are discussing how they are going to have to stop Father Flynn themselves. Mrs. Carson is carrying the cat and holds out a dead mouse. “There we go! She got it! Takes a cat.” When Mrs. Carson exits, Sister Beauvier says quietly, “Yes, it does.”
Final Mewsings: Cats make good mousers and good metaphors.
Many thanks to T.j. Dotson for letting us know about the cat in this film!
