Dustbins Title Issue – Going Places (1941)

by Linda Kay

British Pathé

Synopsis: Newsreel footage shows a demonstration of a home made fire bomb extinguisher during World War II.

Reality Cat: The film begins with a shot of a longhair tabby cat standing next to a typical British dust bin (with some very weird human-sounding mews dubbed over). The narrator states that the trash can is also known as “Pussy’s Pantry.” The rest of the film focuses on how the lid can be retrofitted and used to snuff out fires caused by incendiary bombs.

Final Mewsings: Cats prefer not having to eat out of the trash!
