Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Valerie Gail (Geena Davis) is a Southern California manicurist who gets the surprise of her life when three furry aliens crash land in her swimming pool.
Featured Feline: Valerie owns a white Angora cat named Bambi which is featured in several scenes. Bambi is first seen hiding beneath the taffeta of Valerie’s wedding dress, which she has falling asleep in while trying it on.
Valerie is about to marry Doctor Ted Gallagher (Charles Rocket). Ted doesn’t like Bambi and the feeling is mutual, especially when Ted is cheating on Valerie.
Bambi is seen in a tree outside the house when Ted leaves Valerie after a fight.
When the aliens Mac (Jeff Goldblum), Wiploc (Jim Carrey) and Zeebo (Damon Wayans) show up they explore Valerie’s home. Wiploc finds Bambi and tries to pick her up.
Bambi fights back which prompts Mac and Zeebo to hurry to Wiploc’s aid. They use a strange alien love power on Bambi that causes any subject they touch to fall into a state of love and bliss.
Later Wiploc is seen holding a toaster while Bambi tries to use the litter box. The aliens are able to mimic sounds and add Bambi’s meows into their memories.
Bambi is next seen with Valerie when Woody (Michael McKean) shows up to empty her pool. She says the spaceship in the pool is her new patio. Bambi is sitting on the spaceship with her.
As Valerie and Woody talk, Bambi makes a jump from the ship into the pool and swims to the side. “Shoot the curl, kitty!” Woody shouts.
A shot of Bambi is inserted as Ted is being escorted from the home by police and he screams how he wouldn’t want to live with her and “that psychotic cat of yours!”
In the end Valerie plans to still marry Ted and they are about to go to Vegas to wed when the aliens are leaving. Mac zaps them to make them love each other. Bambi is sitting at the edge of the pool watching them.
Despite the love-spell, Valerie rejects Ted and runs away with Mac. Bambi, apparently still under the influence of the love touch herself, jumps down in the empty pool where Ted is lying and Ted kisses her and pets her, the two apparently madly in love.
Final Mewsings: Cats shouldn’t marry men they don’t like.
