Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Joe Belden (Red Skelton) is a small-town inventor who hopes his gas-o-mobile will change the course of American history.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): Joe is in love with Liz Bullitt (Sally Forrest) whose father Harvey (William Demarest) owns a stable. Joe comes to call on Liz late one night and calls up to her window, motioning for her to come down. He then sneaks onto the porch of the Bullitt home, trying not to make a sound, although he almost knocks over a potted plant. Approaching the door, Joe notices an adorable ginger tabby with white markings sitting in a chair nearby.
Joe motions for the cat to be quiet but as he approaches the cat suddenly turns and jumps up through an open window.
Later after Joe and Liz have talked on the porch a while, Harvey exits the house carrying the cat and scolding, “You get out of here. Get out of here and don’t come back!” as he tosses the cat away. Joe thinks Harvey is talking to him and gives himself and Liz away.
Later in the film Harvey is seen once again ejecting the cat from the house. This time he finds Liz crying on the porch.
Final Mewsings: Cats know when they’re not welcome and don’t care.
