Cat Out of the Bag Alert! This review contains some spoilers for this film!
Synopsis: Four twenty-something friends, Lindsay (Amanda Detmer), Daniel (Devon Sawa), Packer (Ian Virgo), and Troy (Andrew Keegan) are looking for love but having no luck. Then on a skiing trip, Packer finds passion with a beautiful girl after a random accident on the icy slopes. The others conclude that the extreme circumstances of the accident were what caused love to blossom and they decide setting each other up on “extreme dates” hoping for similar success. Things get complicated when Troy plans an elaborate kidnapping scheme so he can act the hero for pretty bank teller Amy (Jamie-Lynn Sigler), unaware that the hired “kidnappers”, A.J. (John DiMaggio) and Hack (Lee Tergesen), are ex-cons who decide to turn the situation to their own advantage.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): After the change of plan, Troy and Amy find themselves tied up in the bedroom of A.J.’s house, along with Lindsay who arrived at the original hideout just as A.J. and Hack decided to make the kidnap real. As the three captives bicker loudly A.J. comes in holding a silver Chinchilla Persian cat in his arms telling them to keep the noise down as he has neighbours.
As he talks to them the cat jumps from his arms, runs across to Troy and jumps up onto his lap . . .
. . . much to Troy’s discomfort as he informs A.J. he is “kinda allergic to cats.” He gets little sympathy from Amy and Lindsay who blame him for the situation they’re in.
A short time later, Troy starts sneezing violently causing cat to jump down to the floor.
The cat is seen once more when Danny arrives to affect a rescue and as he bursts into the basement the cat runs past his legs out of the room.
The cat is included in the end credits cast list where it is named as “Boogey” with two cat wranglers also credited, Lara Osborn and Karen Thomas.
Final Mewsings: Cats find sneezing to be highly offensive.
