Starring: Frances Dee, Bruce Cabot, Ginger Rogers
Directed by: George Nichols Jr., Wanda Tuchock
Synopsis: Virginia Radcliffe (Frances Dee) attends a high-priced finishing school where the girls are expected to act proper at all times. Only she quickly finds that those in charge are more concerned with the school’s reputation than the well-being and happiness of the girls in their charge.
Cat Burglar (Scene Stealer): Virginia accompanies her roommate Cecilia (Ginger Rogers) into New York City where they stay at an out-of-the-way hotel. Ralph McFarland (Bruce Cabot) works part-time at the hotel to help pay for medical school. After rescuing Virginia from an aggressive male companion, Ralph leaves work by the back exit. A white cat with soiled fur appears and rubs against his legs, first one way . . .
. . . and then the other.
Ralph addresses the cat as Gertrude and asks if she’s had breakfast. He then takes the lid off of a garbage can. Gertrude jumps up and starts eating out of the can as Ralph walks away. This is to establish Ralph as a solid good guy in true “Save the Cat” fashion.
Final Mewsings: Is it really kind to let a cat eat out of a garbage can?
