Universal Pictures
Starring: Colin Clive, Boris Karloff, Marilyn Harris
Directed by: James Whale
Synopsis: The classic screen adaptation of Mary Shelley’s novel. Scientist Henry Frankenstein (Colin Clive) becomes obsessed with the idea of creating life from dead tissue and ultimately creates a man from exhumed body parts who has some trouble adjusting to the world.
Kitty Cameo: One of the most memorable scenes in this entire film is the one involving a little girl named Maria (Marilyn Harris). Her father has to leave her by their home for a while.
She asks if he can’t stay and play with her but he suggests she play with kitty. She is holding a tabby cat in her arms.
When her father leaves, Maria walks to the edge of a lake to pick some daisies, taking the cat with her. It’s then that Frankenstein’s monster appears.
Little Maria is surprised but not afraid of the monster and stands up to meet him. The cat is now down on the ground and it scurries away in the opposite direction.
Final Mewsings: Monster enters stage right, cat exits stage left.
